Silky Dogwood (Cornus amonum) is fast-growing, with dense, lustrous green foliage turning bright scarlet red in the fall. Small clusters of white flowers turn into gray-blue berry clusters. The bark is scarlet red all through the winter. Does best in rich, moist soils, but adapts to all soils. Likes full sun, but will tolerate some shade. Berries attract wildlife. Planted for hedgerows and windbreaks. Grows to 9', and is hardy for Zones 4-8. Nursery grown: Pennsylvania license No. 319.
