Glimmer Shop~~~Osage Orange
Osage Orange (Maclura pomifera) tree seedlings. The Osage Orange is a thorny tree that generally grows well in many environments to about 30'. Shiny dark green tapered leaves turn bright yellow in the fall. Commonly used for hedgerows, especially before the 1880's when barbed wire was invented. They bear a fruit, sometimes called a hedge apple, that when ripe gives off a pleasant orange fragrance. The dried fruit, scattered around the perimeter of your home, is said to deter spiders. The bark has green and white stripes when young. In older trees it takes on a brown-orange color. The wood of Osage Orange was highly prized by the Osage Indians of Arkansas and Missouri for bows. Hardy for Zones 4-9. Nursery grown: Pennsylvania license No. 319. Planting instructions are included with all orders.
