Ponderosa Pine is a large, resinous, and fragrant tree with a rounded crown of spreading branches. The needles are stiff and twisted. The bark is blackish-gray, thick, and deeply furrowed into scaly ridges exposing brown inner layers. It thrives in full sun, and enjoys deep, poorly drained flood plains or well-drained slopes of rolling, hilly uplands. Fast growing to heights of 80-100', it is sometimes called Bull Pine due to its imposing size. They are quite beautiful, and make a wonderful privacy screen, as well as helping to block neighborhood noise from your yard. Hardy for Zones 3-6. Nursery grown: Pennsylvania license No. 319.
